Ogham Runes Meanings of Classical Fedas. Part 2 (Anyi Muin)

This time we will study the Ogham runes, I will tell you the meanings of twenty Fedas according to the original principles of this system and the practices of the Druids, which are described in details in the first part, i.e. the type, external signs, behavior and other characteristics of plants. I categorically do not like the way the Fedas were considered before – explaining the meanings through long-outdated mythology or not explaining at all – so I give my version, with a detailed explanation of where everything came from. Unfortunately, the magic of the Druids has long been lost, but the Wiccans took it as a basis for their neo-paganism. After all, the symbol of the triune goddess and the horned god of Wicca is nothing more than a reference to more ancient, but now lost knowledge. But let’s return to the meaning of the Ogham runes. Byekh (Birch plant, letter B)
The white color of the Birch bark is a source of light, something that shows the situation from different sides. The moment of transition, some gates, a new path, other lines of probability.
Birch water (sap) is purification, healing of some painful things for the querent, especially related to the removal of the superfluous, unnecessary, old. The movement of sap up in the spring is the desire for life, for the sun after illnesses, difficult periods in life.
Birch tar is disinfection of anything in the broadest sense.
New beginning: birch forests are often the first to begin to grow on the site of fires, burnt areas, clearings. Feda of dawn, spring, new affairs, beginnings, startups and what gives these beginnings a strong push, reveals the potential. Liis (Rowan plant, letter L)
Red color of fruits, properties of Rowan bark to dye fabrics in red-brown tones, bright red and gold color of leaves in autumn: blood, life, fire. Fjarn (Alder plant, letter F)
Disinfection properties of Alder in a broad and figurative sense.
Alder generally always grows near water and has developed protection against rotting and other diseases, so it was used to make support piles for houses standing on or near water. Hence the properties of this Feda to resist rottenness, illness, survival in difficult, uncomfortable circumstances, the ability to withstand and not break, to protect oneself and protect others.
Also, due to its ability not to rot in water, they made bridges from Alder – the meaning of a bridge, establishing connections, joining, including connection of dense with subtle and the ability to contact the subtle. Nyin (Ash plant, letter N)
The very first thing that comes to mind when mentioning the tree “Ash” for those who are even superficially familiar with mythology is Ash Yggdrasil, the system of the Lower, Middle and Upper worlds of our Tree of Life, and there is no escape from this association. Therefore the Feda Ash is any systems and structures in any spheres of life, as well as what prevents the system from falling apart. Harmony, the normal state of the situation that is being asked about. The world, the environment, the querent’s surroundings, whether he is comfortable in it or not.
Why Ash? Most likely, because of the significant height of the tree and the straightness of the trunk – the world axis, the supreme power and the power of laws. Ash was often used to make bows and arrows, stakes and spears for hunting, spears – the meaning of focusing on the goal and achieving it, setting goals, developing business plans, strategies, etc. Ash likes to grow on hills where there are a lot of winds – an indirect connection with the element of Air and its meanings: lightness, airiness, transparency (including laws), invisibility, air traveling, etc. Here also are the meanings of any information and its exchange, information flows and working with them.

Huah (Hawthorn plant, letter H)
A tree or bush with rare, thick, straight thorns and very strong wood. Almost all thorny plants of Ogham carry bad connotations or a double bottom, which was and is used in associative magic. The thorns of such plants are especially visible in winter, when the tree is leafless and fruitless, hence the connection with the dark half of the year, blindness in different senses of the word, lack of clarity, closing the eyes to what is unpleasant to look at and you don t want to. A difficult, hard period in life obstacles, barriers.
The very name of the Feda Huah is translated as fear, horror: frightening transformations and feelings associated with them, loss of ground under your feet, imaginary and real fears, phobias, panic attacks. Duir (Oak plant, letter D)
This tree is a long-liver, very large and powerful, but at a young age it is often drowned out by other trees that are growing faster. Over time, all things made of oak only become stronger, including the oak things is in the water – hence the meanings of strength, power, durability, masculinity, courage, great deeds, increasing over time. Unless the matter, the situation, which is asked about, is strangled by unfavorable circumstances at the very beginning of its development.
The height of the oak – the highest levels of legitimate power, hierarchy, management, order and rules, internal beliefs. Oak bark contains a lot of tannins, and they are excellent preservatives and fixatives (the principle of Jupiter). Tinne (Holly plant, letter T)
The tree looks very decorative: red, noticeable berries that remain on the plant all winter, and unusually shaped leaves with very sharp thorns at the ends, which can easily prick you even in thick gloves. Holly berries are poisonous, they are a strong allergen. Poison, as we know, can be both a medicine and something that kills, hence the meanings of difficult tests of strength, challenges of fate, after which you either become stronger, smarter, wiser – or break. Also any kind of competition.
This Feda is a semantic antagonist of the Oak Feda. If Oak is about civilized, then Holly will be about the marginal: rejection of template thinking, your own, non-standard thoughts and moves, going beyond any boundaries, unpredictability. In various matters, the Feda can indicate a cunning, intelligent opponent with whom it is interesting to discuss, fight and who is difficult to defeat. Holly forms reliable hedges, it is used as windbreaks: meanings of border protection, security and patronage from superiors. The name of the Feda “Tinne” is translated as “piece of metal”. Also “tine” – “fire, flame”. All together gives the meaning of blacksmithing. Metalworking is experience and accumulated knowledge, skill and its highest levels. In addition, forging, smelting metal with fire – flexibility, giving a new shape to anything, creating yourself as a person. The process is often painful and difficult, as indicated by both the thorns on the leaves of the Holly and the difficulties of the blacksmith’s profession.

Coll (Hazelnut plant, letter C)
Nuts are very useful for the brain, which gives us a connection with thinking, reason, and especially with accumulated knowledge, wisdom: when ripening, the hazelnut fruit accumulates many useful substances, including proteins and fats, necessary for the normal brain functioning. Study, teacher-student tandem, transfer of information. Places where they teach something. Scientific works, research, channels of perception, memory. In layouts on esoteric questions, it can show information received from the other side.
Nuts are the fruits of knowledge, and the image of a ripe nut falling from a tree, which you need to be able to catch, is about the ability to assimilate a certain amount of knowledge. For everyone, it will be different.
Hazelnut has an incredible speed of growth and capture of the area with young growth, especially on fertile soils, which is why it is often called a weed. It is not found on poor soils: the meaning of learning, the transfer of information, which, having fallen on fertile soil, will flourish, but on poor soil will wither.
Some time ago, a forked hazelnut branch was used to search for water – in layouts it can mean the search for sources of wisdom, the search in general as such and the acquisition of what is sought after the path taken.

Quert (Apple plant, letter Q)
A tree whose fruits have been known to mankind since ancient times and are loved by it. In Ogham, plants with such tasty, nutritious fruits always mean a resource, fertility of any business, prosperity, good health, physical beauty and sexuality, restoration of some integrity into a single system, like the connection of two halves of an apple. Good Feda.
The time of apple orchards fruiting is a pleasant time of the year, the time of harvest, generosity of nature, home comfort and well-being. These same meanings are present in the Feda Quert.
The fertility of apple tree is associated with the feminine principle, therefore in layouts the Apple Tree can mean a woman, as, for example, the Oak – a man.
In the Gaulish language, apple sounds like avallo, hence Avalon is what the Celts called the subtle plane. Here another interesting meaning of this Feda appears, also connected with integrity: states similar to shamanic illness, in which subtle bodies are rebuilt, merged into one – that very integrity appears. This process can be accompanied by something like madness, but it is not quite so. In essence, we are talking about the opening of ajna, the ability to see the subtle plane not with physical eyes, the adjustment of the body and personality to such a new position. By the way, in conjunction with the Blackberry Feda, it can indicate classic madness, already without figurative meanings.

Muin (Blackberry plant, letter M)
Blackberry has flexible stem shoots, densely covered with thorns, very tenacious and easily injuring anyone who dares to stick their nose unprotected into a Blackberry bush. As mentioned above, the thorny plants of Ogham often carry not very pleasant connotations, and the Muin Feda is no exception. The main meaning is the adhesion of one to another, a hook on something or someone, and a very strong one. This also includes cases of painful, destructive passions, irresistible attraction that cannot be resisted and which, as a rule, do not end well. Situations when something so incredible, beautiful and unearthly, inspiring and uplifting comes, which has never happened in the querent’s life, and after a while disappears. The state of emptiness, torturous melancholy, apathy that arises after, when the world feels cold and unkind and you feel like you’re at the end of your rope – all this also falls into the sphere of the Muin Feda. Loss of connection to reality, illusions and exhausting fantasies, treachery, deceit, manipulation, love spells.
Blackberry wine has been widely known since ancient times, as well as many cases of poisoning with it, including fatal ones that s the duality of the Feda, when troubles follow a pleasant, sweet and intoxicating period, up to mental disorders and diseases. Therefore, the meanings of alcohol, drugs, psychedelics, various ecstasy techniques – in general, everything that changes consciousness – belong to the Blackberry.
Blackberry can form large, impenetrable thickets, absorbing all the space around and suppressing other plants, it has a very powerful root system: the meanings of spreading influence, capturing minds, hearts, rooting in business, in the area. There will also be suffocating meanings here: excessive love, care, suppression of will, pushing through one’s own interest and only one’s own.
The name of the Feda “Muin” is most often translated as “throat”, “neck”. There will be a complex of meanings associated with the voice, vocal cords, with the ability to charm with the voice, speech, oratory, oral spells.
In addition, the neck is the transition between the head and the body, what connects one with the other. In the context of the Blackberry Feda, I see here connections between the subtle and dense worlds, as well as those who establish and maintain these connections.

Gort (Ivy plant, letter G)
Ivy is a creeping, climbing plant. It can entwine the entire tree, and over time it will die, because Ivy blocks access to light and air. Not even stonework can resist the Ivy. From this we can see the meaning of something that at first does not seem dangerous, but over time can block oxygen, strangle and cause irreparable damage.
Ivy needs support, which means a situation when one needs to lean on someone or cling to something in order to move on.
Ivy branch with many closely planted leaves: finances and their multiplication, a plurality of anything – a large family, clan, group of people, most often of a marginal orientation, where there is no obvious leader.
Ivy, growing, connects different trees. Through this feature we read the main meaning of this Feda – unity, unification of the disparate into a single system, connection.
The name of the Feda “Gort” is translated as “field” or “fenced-off space”. It goes back to the same meaning as “a village, vegetable garden, fence”. The meaning of a place protected from all sides, a safe and reliable shelter. Also, “cultivation of the field” – the development of your business.
Ivy is an evergreen plant: immortality, continuity of some processes, durability.
Unpretentious, can grow in many places. The qualities of adaptability and the ability to settle into any environment or group.
The coolness under the Ivy leaves – cooling of the mind, sober reasoning, unemotional assessments of the situation, analysis.
The Ivy s fast growing, its inflexibility and ability to entwine anything, gradually climbing up the support, is persistence in achieving your goals, constant work in the chosen direction, endurance, strong and rapid growth and development of what is asked about, dynamics. Feda Gort cannot denote stagnant processes.

NGetal (Reed plant, letter Ng)
A very moisture-loving plant. Reed thickets are common near any water sources, along river lowlands, on lake shores, swamps, and at the boundary between water and land representing the significance of a limit, a boundary, or separation between one space and another. Develops powerful, thick and long rhizomes. It is almost impossible to get rid of the Reed where it has settled, amazing survivability means rooting oneself in a particular area, profession, or circle of like-minded colleagues.
The stem of the reed is hard, but flexible, does not break in the wind, and it is easy to cut yourself with it. By the way, with leaves too. The name of the Feda “nGetal” is translated as “cutting, destruction, murder”. Blood goes from cuts – one of the main meanings of the Feda of the reed. Violation of boundaries, wars, showdowns, conflicts, exacerbation of sluggish situations. Skin damage – wounds, open injuries, various painful situations. Violation of personal boundaries. Energy damage, causing serious wounds to the subtle body. Financial holes, in general, where “blood”, resource, energy quickly leaks out.

Straf (Blackthorn plant, letters St or Z)
Blackthorn forms dense, thorny and impassable thickets. It is fixed on almost any soil, even on stones and rocks. It can grow both in the sun and in the shade. Thus, all this speaks of an excellent ability to survive, a large reserve of vitality, endurance, excellent immunity and health in general. The same meanings are inherent in the Straf Feda.
Here are also various difficulties, obstacles, a thorny path, a dark stripe.
The capture of new territories – including by force during military action or a political coup. Expanding your influence, opening branches will take place along this Feda.
The branches of the Blackthorn are abundantly covered with thorns. Try to go through its thickets – then you will be tormented by treating scratches. Here we see a connection with blood in the broad sense. It grows very quickly, filling the areas available to it – something wild and uncontrollable can enter anyone’s life and change it.

If we are talking about a person, then according to Blackthorn, they will have a good intuition, incredibly developed instincts and senses, as well as excellent subtle vision.
Blackthorn berries become sweet only after they are hit by frost. The meanings of difficult tests, after which we become better, reach new levels.

Ruish (Black elderberry plant, letter R)
Black, small berries of the elderberry plant are collected in large clusters and resemble a handful of dark earth. In particular, this image conveys the meanings of everything that can be associated with the earth and its depths, literally and figuratively: caves, dungeons, subways, graves, resource extraction from underground, Lower worlds, Necro. Subconscious, the area of the unconscious, the Shadow in the psyche, repressed, not accepted.
Something hidden, buried, which is very difficult to bring to light and examine.
Black elderberry very often grows in cemeteries. The name of the Feda “Ruish” denotes the shade of old, spilled blood, rusty spots of dead blood on the blade of a sword: death, funerals, mourning the dead, etc. The dying off of something, getting rid of the dead, obsolete. Alm (Elm plant, letter A)
Elm tree is one of the long-lived plants, so its main meaning will be maturity, even old age, but strong, when there is still a lot of strength, as well as life experience, wisdom. In layouts, it can indicate a mature and strong man, father or grandfather. Also male strength in the same sense 🙂

Elm wood is strong, hard, heavy, does not rot. For these properties, Elm was often used in the household, there are a lot of things made from it, specifically intended for the home. In this regard, the meanings of home space, household chores, everyday life, family, work on the land, physical labor, simple life are read. The owner, who takes good care of his possessions, protects and saves them. The strength and reliability of wood gives us meaning of stability, calm, sometimes slowness of the Alm Feda.

Onn (Gorse plant, letter O)
Gorse is a low-growing subshrub, another thorny plant of Ogham, and also moderately poisonous, especially the seeds. The name “Gorse” means to tear off, to gouge – a clear reference to its thorns. Such characteristics give us a layer of meanings associated with something wild, borderline, unfriendly, dangerous, with something that can hurt or poison – in a broad sense.
Gorse flowers are bright, yellow, fragrant. One plant can have up to 5,000 flowers that produce a lot of yellow, sticky pollen, from which paint of the same color is extracted here we have the meanings of money, wealth, but due to the thorny and poisonousness of the plant, the wildness of the places where it grows, this money can be obtained either in a dubious way, or drag along various troubles depending on the context.
In general, all the meanings of the Onn Feda are very dual: on the one hand, everything seems to be fine, but you begin to look deeper and see pitfalls, traps, hidden and often unpleasant nuances. For example, if the layout considers buying and selling, and Onn falls as the main Feda, then this, on the one hand, is a good sign, but on the other hand, you should not relax and carefully double-check everything.
The plant forms entire glades, as if covered with gold, and in hot sunny weather, the thickets of the Gorse can ignite due to the high content of essential oils. This feature leads us to the fiery meanings of this Feda: an internal flame that can burst out, a spark, the heat of passions, sudden outbursts of feelings, also a beacon, a guiding light, i.e. external motivation.

Uhr (Heather plant, letter U)
Heather is a small shrub with highly branched stems. One plant can have up to 75,000 very fragrant flowers. Their honeyed, pleasant smell is the meaning of sweetness, sweet speeches, happiness, luck, a good sign, softening and partial neutralization of the negative meanings of the Feda, which fell in the same layout with Heather.
The vast heather moorlands are widely known, their beauty rivaling that of carefully cultivated human-made gardens. Moreover, the soil on such wastelands, as a rule, is very poor – in business layouts it can indicate difficulties. The name of the Feda Uhr is translated as “earth” – the force that feeds the situation, a resource that helps to survive even in difficult conditions. The most important honey plant, and the heather bitter honey of a beautiful dark amber color is no less famous, as well as alcoholic drinks made from it. The sweetness of honey directs us to the meanings of love, and its very first romantic period. And the connection with alcoholic drinks – to the meanings of intoxication, but without the harmful and poisonous connotations, like Blackberry, for example. Holidays, parties, get-togethers with friends. Also inspired states, creative ecstasy, healing of body and spirit. It is interesting that the germination of heather seeds is enhanced by heat stress, and soil burned by mild fires provides more nutrients. This is the so-called pyrophilia in the world of plants – a connection with the sun, summer, warmth, an optimistic mood, the need for emotional warmth from others, for inspiration to “sprout” and move on.

Eie (Aspen plant, letter E)
Aspen has one characteristic and recognizable feature: its leaves tremble from the slightest wind, hence the second name – trembling poplar. Botanists explain this by the too thin stalk for a fairly large leaf. There is a well-known saying “to tremble like an aspen leaf” – meaning fright, fear, anxiety, cowardice. Tremor that has physical causes, for example, from high temperature or as a reaction to certain medications.
The trembling of aspen leaves in the wind reminds whispering sounds. If you listen to it for a long time, it becomes creepy 🙂
Here will be the meanings of any kind of communication, contact, including with the Subtle plane, translation activities, the work of a medium, finding a common language, achievement of understanding, clarity.
Aspen is able to survive forest fires, because its roots are located very deep underground – situations when there is good protection from external threats, and the protection is often implicit, invisible to others. The ability to survive, to be reborn after some collapse, not to lose your roots. The tree belongs to the willow family and contains salicylic acid in the bark (the same is found in Willow), has good anti-inflammatory, antipyretic properties, which gives us similar meanings to Willow of cooling the situation, extinguishing an emotional fire, calming.

Iver (Yew plant, letter I)
Yew lives very long, from 1500 to 4000 years according to various sources. Yew forests originally occupied a large territory, but were almost completely exterminated by mankind because of their strong, beautiful and almost “eternal” wood – the meaning of wisdom, accumulated life experience, knowledge.
All parts of this coniferous tree are deadly poisonous. The wood and needles of Yew have strong bactericidal properties – they kill even those microorganisms that are in the air. The Irish prepared poison for arrows from Yew and other poisonous herbs, and Ireland itself is called the “country of Yews”. All these qualities of the tree lead us to such meanings of the Iver Feda as death, including the element of Death as transformation, the end of one phase and the beginning of another, the transition to other levels, to new realities. Also, due to the peculiarities of the element of Death, Yew in layouts can speak of peace, calm and the ability to give this peace to others, of detachment, oblivion, loss of interest and feelings, silence and calmness, love for solitude. Purification through the element of Death.
In layouts for health, it can indicate poisoning or fatal diseases, including those from radioactive exposure.
